there is a compilation called freezone 6 (ssr), from back nov98,
compiled by dj morpheus. while earlier sets had dealt mainly with
ambient, trip-hop & even some housey tracks, this last compilation is
clearly focused on broken beat & abstract nu-jazz. some of the artists
featured: chateau flight (i:cube + gilb'r), mark pritchard, amba (tom
middleton), restless soul (phil asher), maurice fulton, london
elektricity, jack jones (dego & josh wink), stereotyp, mustang (alex
attias), better daze (andrew jarvis from ubiquity), common factor,
etc.
most of the tracks are from 1998, a couple from 1999, and another 2-3
from 1997. this is the earliest 'broken beat' compilation i could
trace in my collection.
