    Many of you here are well aware of the fact that I only have one thing on the Soul-Patrol Website about Sly Stone.
    It's located at the following URL:
    http://www.soul-patrol.com/funk/sly.htm
    <a href=" http://www.soul-patrol.com/search "> AOL LINK: HEY BROTHA, HOW COME YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING UP IN THIS FUNKY JOINT ABOUT SLY STONE? </a>

    For a LONG time I didn't even have that much up about him.
    One day I decided to write a reply to a question that I would get via email about once/week...
    HEY BROTHA, HOW COME YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING UP IN THIS FUNKY JOINT ABOUT SLY STONE?

    After writing a rather long winded email reply to the person, I decided to post it up on the web :)

    During the festivities at the R&B Foundation Pioneer Awards, I was privleged to spend quite a bit of time with the members of the "Family Stone" and their families.

    They are quite an amazing aggregation of individuals
    They were all quite aware of the Soul-Patrol website, some are even "lurkers" on the Soul-Patrol mailing list.

    During the 2 day span of time I met/interviewed

    * Freddie Stone
    * Rose Stone
    * Cynthia Robinson
    * Jerry Martini
    * Greg Enrico
    * Larry Graham
    * "Big Mama" Stone
    * Other assorted "Stone" children, wives, grandchildren, friends, etc

    They made me feel extremely comfortable with them as people and I just wanted to thank them for the oppurtunity to experience that.

    Meeting them as I did, not strictly as a "reporter", but also as a friend gave me the chance to almost feel like i was a member of the "family".
    How proud I felt :)

    These people are some of the most influential folks of the last half of the 20th Century.
    * They changed our culture
    * They changed our colective minds
    * They changed our view of the world

    The experience I had with them over the course of the two days and beforehand has literally changed a few of my own impressions.
    They STILL have the power to make you THINK and be FUNKEE at the same time.
    This is a POWERFUL thing and for all of us, we are fortunate that this group of people are STILL around and available to help us to make some sense of what lies ahead for us...

    I have got a LOT to say about them...

    However, oddly enough, I still don't have much (if anything) to say about Sly himself.
    I didn't really learn anything about him, that I didn't know before
    The man is a tourtured genius
    His family confirmed that

    Why is he "tourtured"?
    Well...
    some of that is his fault, and some of that is our fault

    (but we already knew that, didn't we?????)

    In the coming days and weeks, I will be putting up taped interviews with some of the members of "the Family Stone" on Soul-Patrol.Net Radio, including what was for me a MIND BLOWING interview (for me) that I conducted with Freddie Stone, while riding the "A Train" between Times Square and Harlem.

    I want you to hear what THEY have to say
    (it's more important than what I have to say)

    These are some of the BIGGEST music stars of our generation, however in the end, they really are just:
    "everyday people..."

    Now i realize that I have been "teasing" yall about all of these interviews and stuff on tape.
    here is a little something to "whet your whistle", while our "crack team of audio engineers" prepares all of our broacasts from the R&B Foundation Pioneer Awards

    Just go to the main page of Soul-Patrol at the following link:

    <a href=" http://www.soul-patrol.com/ "> AOL LINK: HEY BROTHA, HOW COME YOU DON'T HAVE ANYTHING UP IN THIS FUNKY JOINT ABOUT SLY STONE? </a>

    where I just uploaded Larry Graham and Freddie Stone's acceptance speech the other night from the Apollo, where they discuss one of the very first topics that we ever discussed here on the Soul-Patrol Digest.
    It is a topic that we continually return to.
    Go to the link and listen to the members of Sly and the Family Stone talking about a VERY critical issue...

    "Heard Ya Missed me, Well now I'm BACK...."
