    Seb Chew reads this newsletter.......

Thanks for the universal messages of gratitude for getting this thing back on line. Cuki's 'boots' well and truly overwhelmed with the response to being back in existence. It's nice to know that you still appreciate the circular.

Back in London last week. It became apparent that I could get a real good 'vs' going on here! Think Speedy may have something to say about this, but here goes from a middle European perspective. Let the battle begin. 'London vs Vienna'

10 things I really like about Vienna.
    1. Lara Croft look-alikes!
    2. Taxi drivers drive Mercs and take you home directly! Not via Alaska like they do in the west end. They can also drive.
    3. Better quality reception on your mobile in the subway then in the streets of Soho!
    4. Go to a bar, club, restaurant or coffee shop and you'll probably bump into a friend! You are never a stranger here.
    5. No barriers at the underground station and in the time that I have been here I have yet to see an inspector! This city trusts me. And what's a signal failure?
    6. Doris lives here and Servini doesn't!
    7. W's are pronounced as V's. That makes the Arsenal football team a bunch of Vankers!
    8. Bread tastes like bread and not cardboard with holes in. Tap water tastes like champagne not liquid pollution (Err, it is liquid pollution)
    9. The sauna and steam rooms at my local gym are mixed! They are also naked! Shocking but true!
    10. Chocolate!

10 things I like about London.
    1.

    10.

    I tried! Honest.
Actually, some things I like about 'Smokey'! Mostly the peeps. Shouts in London to the following.
Nik Weston, big bro MK Ultra, little bro Gabor, Dirk & the Berlin lasses, Allan, Michael, Red door in Barons Court crew espesh the lovely Lucy, Felix, JP & the rest of VJ crew, Ade at PP, Matt Wager & Kev Beadle at RtG, Alex & Paul at RS, Reka & Anna, Abby, Spencer & Ashley, Mr Chew, Richie, Pete at BBE, Did I forget anyone! Oh yes Mr Dom Servini, I really do luv his boots! Enjoy your footie result mate.

The Dub Club! http://www.dubclub-vienna.com/ This week I will give you a little insight into one of the best club nights in Europe. Monday night is just an extension of the weekend for the regular party people of Vienna. The Dub club could be deemed 'That's how it is', 'Co-op', 'Off-Centre' and 'Movement' all rolled into one night. One dance floor and one sound system! But oh what a sound system! Oh my god. In fact, without doubt, this has to be the sickest system in Europe. I hear things that I never hear anywhere else. Musically, this night goes just about everywhere. I've heard twisted house and techno, broken beats, two step, drum n bass and some serious tripped out dub. Sweet Susi, Gumix and Sugar B warm up the melting pot then at about 1-ish you get special guest's DJ's and bands etc. Two weeks ago I heard Peter Kruder & DJ Morpheus (Freezone) push even more musical boundaries. Vibrations rocking Cuki's 'boots', his spirit and soul fixed with another dose of inspirational music, heartbeat wanderings at about 180 beats per minute. I left at 5.30 in the morning, Tuesday morning. As I left, I said to myself that this is how to party.
Last night Lamb did their live thing at the Dub club and wherever they travel to on their tour this fall, they will not get a better chance to express their music as well. This they knew too. Truly awesome. Some folks outta Vienna know a little bit of the Dub club through an excellent compilation which came out last year. Included in this compilation was one of the ruffest grooves ever to come out on vinyl, 'The Dub club' track by Stereotyp & Soothsayer. Also included in the album was some choice bottom end by the Sofa Surfers. Seek this mother out. This weekend, men of the moment, Zero db, bring boxes of Fluid oz's and nuff madness to the Flex. Maestro's Kruder & Dorfmeister also in attendance. Next Monday, Vienna Scientist Jurgen Drimal conducts musical experiments at this awesome night. Err, you know where I will be then.
So if you ever come to Vienna for one of those long weekends, make it a little bit longer and travel home on the Tuesday. The Dub club is not to be missed. Get ready Mr Vogado.

Lara Croft look-alike fan club! No I'm not sending any pics of the flyiest girl in town, so bye bye's wit ya asking! All I'll say is, if you at a boogie down joint in Vienna and you see a wide eyed & beautiful Lara Croft look-alike, then you'll know the score. Trust me, she really is fly. And no, she isn't blonde! Can't believe someone asked if she was blonde! Have you never seen Tomb raider numbtyhead! Anyway the hottest screensaver in Wien just got hotter. Ouch! The biggest bussi for CB/MT/LC. Others can get their kicks at http://www.laracroft.co.uk/

I will though gladly send other jpegs of what the digi camera caught this or that week. Just make sure Yahoo & Hotmail account holders that you have room to accept them! We got some nice pics from London and some not so nice ones (mostly of Speedy). Some Dub club bizniz at the Flex too.

As for secret agent 'Maybe Blue'. She is currently working under cover for the secret service of some east European network. Without doubt, big time espionage activity is going on in Vienna as we speak. Don't be fooled into thinking this some lost lonely soul learning about Viennese culture and art! Last known whereabouts, Kleines cafe. Easy to spot, a Davidoff light permanently attached to her fingers!

....... And the biggest record in London right now is from Vienna! NuWalker's '2nd of September'

The Cuki chart....... Nuff nu entries*

1*. Koop - Waltz for Koop (JCR) 1xLP
Some things are just worth waiting for. Like the summer! This though really is worth the wait and what seems like quite a few summers. It really did seem like an eternity for this dream to be realized. First time I heard 'Waltz for Koop'! Man, it's so long ago I can't remember! Anyway, we're here, November 27th 2001, and a nice parcel from Compost delivers a long player that will surely pass the test of time. It already has in CD-R form. Congratulations to Magnus and Oscar and all concerned for this excellent album. The perfect combination of new meeting old. Respect also to JCR/Compost who should change their name to 'International rescue' records.

    2. 4 Hero - Creating Patterns (Talkin Loud) 3xLP
Album of the year! I said that about IG's joint! I said that about Nathan's long player! This time I'm sticking. Did I tell ya about the time my promo CD got stuck in the CD player and I jumped for joy. It was the only thing I could play for days! Yeah, like I was real unhappy about this ;) I'm missing Murphs vocal on the vinyl but the three slabs of vinyl are stuck in the box till next great event from 4 Hero. Respect to Dollis Hill

    3. Stereotyp - Gazzui Matter (Ecco Chamber) 12"
There's a mad car chase going around the 18th district! Dinner at Puglia's but quickly back in the car! We have to catch the man! We drive with the Scheibosan but follow the protégé in his custom built speedstar! His car has more knobs then ours so we never catch up! We enjoy the chase though! He has no mix tapes in his car either as the mentor informs me! No distractions! The spookiest soundtrack of the year just found it's way onto a slice of vinyl & the best record Kraftwork never made!

4*. Jazzanova - That night/ Days to come (JCR) 12"
So its all good on Haggar street then! Another outstanding release from JCR/Compost records. Jazzanova get deeper then they ever have before. Vikter gives us the warm & loved up vocals that he is so blessed to deliver. Some records have good A sides and OK B sides, this has two epic sides to satisfy the masses.

5*. Karime Kendra - Lovely brown skin (Score) 12"
I missed the little red hat. I missed the voice that came with this beautiful head piece. Lovely brown skin, dark soothing tones, what else could I ever need. She sent me to sleep for many a moon with 'Too Much'! So she's back. KK my favourite singer from out west. She doesn't sing as often as I would like but when she does, goosebumps get goosebumps. No sleeping this time though, a Landslide production see's to that. Feel a chemical imbalance coming on! A good one. I miss ya boots KK

    6. Fauna Flash - The Viennese mixes (Compost) 12"
Maybe it's Puglia's! Maybe! Dem boys bouncing off each other for sure. The Stereotyp and his mentor ripping up the rule book along the way! Those of the faint heart beware! Those with open minds about producers and genres, take note! And then we still gotta wait for Sugar B's awesome intro for the other crew!

7*. Fat Jon as Maurice Galactica - Humanoid Erotica (Counterflow) 2xLP
Hot heeling YNQ as this years best instrumental hip hopper. Cincinnati's ample soul physician enlightens us to the world of Maurice Galactica, a twisted and disturbed break beater of gigantic proportions. . 'I Dee' a classic! A little late night music for the headz.

8*. The Open Door - What's behind door #1 (Sole) CD
There's this cat that lives in Brixton. Probably the coolest cat south of the river! Whiskers that reach out for ever. Big grin on the cat cause he know where the creamiest milk is! I reckon this cat listens to music like this. Now, some people getting high on a track called 'Breathe' and they have ever right to cause it's shockingly good. Do though get ready for the long player that will soon follow. Non conforming music for non conforming adults like me! Respect to the cat.

    9*. Dalunartikz - Higher (Arthrob) 12"
Daz-I-Kue, the hardest working man on the west side, the knob twiddler for the boys in north Acton, the funkiest boogie man ever born, the main man basically! Drop this track and watch what happens. Some liken this to 'Transcend me' and I ain't gonna disagree. A totally inspirational groove.

10*. Uschi Classen feat Kimra - Now illuminate (Earth Project) 12"
Back to the cat in Brixton for this one! This cat also runs a record label. One of the most exciting labels in Catland for sure. No dogs in 5 previous releases! Do get ready to check out this choice piece from the forthcoming Uschi album! And what an album! House music that will rock 'Body & Soul' as much as it rocks 'Bootsville' here in Vienna. You need reinforced rubber on your soles! You've been warned.

    11*. Asheru & Blue Black - Soon Come (7 Heads) 2xLP
How lazy wit ya life Cuki! This is how I like my hip hop in Vienna. Unspoken Heard always come through wit the readies. Always super fresh, always on the up tip. Crews like this forget the 'bling bling' and stay true to their roots. Those who dug the 'Jamboree' and 'Elevator music' EP's are in for a treat.

12*. The Secret Waltz on tonight (Red Egyptian) 1xLP
Waltzing for the generation who don't know how to waltz! The summer of 2001, a strange but beautiful club appears in the Kingsland road. No flyers, no posters lining the derelicts of EC1 and 2, for this is truly a secret waltz. Listen to this and you get a reality check in the form of twelve amazing and moving tracks. More late night music.

    13*. Agent K - Ladies (Laws of Motion) 12"
Agent K aka Kaidi Tatham. A wandering genius from west London gives us a taster from his forthcoming album. Kaidi could be likened to a modern day George Duke. Full of energies that others have never experienced. Madslinky, the other great two stepper in town joins in the west London vibe with a superb and respectful remix.

    14. Rednose District - ? (Zephons Mom) 12"
Carpet slippers on the roof! Lost dem in moments of madness! All James's fault too. Peeps in the 12th district complaining about the noise levels coming from the 15th district. What, they never heard broken beats from Holland before! Like I said, blame James.

    15*. Kenkou - Spaceflight (Music Conception) 12"
Atmospherics from the land of the rising sun. Choice little bossa/house groover from Calm's musical imprint 'Music Conception'and his off shoot 'Satellite series'. Warm Rhodes take you on this intimate space flight through the cosmos. This the kinda sound the Japanese do so well. As always, production and arrangements super tight.

    16*. V/A - People make the world go round 3 (People) 2xLP
Part 3 from a place in west London. Exclusive instalments from Quango (IG Culture), Sci Clone (Nathan Haines), Da Altive Natives (Danny). Some tried and trusted tracks also from Ne Grove (Leroy & Marcus). Restless Soul (Phil Asher), Fini Dolo (Noel Watson). Don't you just love all these different guises.

17*. Nitan Sawhney - Cold & Intimate (Landslide remix) 12"
Landslide on the A side, Joe Claussell on the B side! That's what we like! The best two stepper on the planet goes from strength to strength. Whatever Tim Land touches you know the Rhodes will be in full effect. And wait till he makes music out of a proper studio! Yeah, all that music he made before was out of his living room! Just goes to show, music comes from the heart not some fancy piece of equipment worth mega penny's

    18*. Wah-cHU-kU - You know what (Surplus) 12"
You know what you are supposed to do, you know what you need to do? Find this infectious bit of Detroit influenced envelope pushing music! Attica Blues of course. It's the beats that give it away. The hardest, ruffest, toughest around. 'A' takes you there, the 'B' takes you back, you could go back before you go but that's your decision. Which ever way you, decide to travel, enjoy the ride.

19*. Smoab - Still waiting EP (Personal) 12"
Buying Viennese records in London! What's that all about. Some mighty fine moments on this twelve including a tech house influenced trip to some far flung galaxy. Think Lonnie Liston Smith visiting a Detroit pharmacy in the year 2064. The intro and outro bring you back to the little blue planet.

    20*. Zero Crossing - ? (Spinning Wheel) 12"
What's it called Reini? Whatever it is called, it's moving. Then half way thorough the track it moves more! A ruffed up Moodymann in waiting. Simple & sparse in effect, Wheels in motion.

    21*. TD Project - Spiritual (Dadhouse) 12"
Kev Beadle & Chris Bangs (we're talking old school here) get heavy! Man, I'm digging this. Get some over here bro! If you digging the Fluid Oz 'ting', then radars at the ready. Bottom end with all the hooks. Another pair of 'boots' in need of reinforced rubber!

    22*. Stephane Attias - Travellers (Visions) 12"
Vanessa Freeman adds her golden vocals to a little bro Attias production. Future jazz as always from the Visions camp. Crisp clean drums a trademark of both Alex & Stephane.
Deep uplifting vocals, a trademark of Miss Freeman. A quality partnership

    23*. Mark Force - Gypo (Bitasweet) 12"
Total madness outta Bitasweet! You'll find yourself losing the plot to this one. Like when your football team has just scored in injury time and you and your company jump up and down like you just don't care. Musically, it don't say much, energy wise, it talks masses! What you play after this record is anyone's guess! Maybe you'll play it again.

    24. Bazille Noir - S/T (Jubilee) 2xLP
Do I have the Nussschwarzer today or maybe the Einspanner? Maybe I'll stick with the tried & trusted Fiaker! Whatever, I've found the perfect soundtrack to the coffee cosmos that I now find myself in! New outfit, new album, newish label, all deliver the goods with extraordinary ease.

    25. V/A - All our Eggs in one basket (Freerange) CD
Jamie Jimpster and friends gather a fine selection of honest and sincere music from the Freerange stable. Driving through Vienna, this time with the Tomster and 'Deep Down' introducing the CD. Where was the kid from Gothenburg? I was thinking of him, I missed him! Organic music for intellectuals and music lovers alike. It's playing right now.

    26. V/A - 12 cuts of the Pie (Humble) CD-R
The filling for this particular pie is, KV5, Kadmon, Rockstone, Yenara, Pael Black, Rio Collective, Brownman Greenman. Ingredients that make this particular dish very very tasty. I'm having this pie for breakfast, lunch and supper! What kinda restaurant would serve this? I have no idea! Where you can buy Humble pie? Again I have no idea! Then again, and as daft as it sounds, you may buy this dish in a record shop very soon. Wouldn't that be cool.

    27. Blue Monkeys - The way you make me feel (Rima rub) (Spinning Wheel) 12"
It was over the line by at least a metre! Man, dem Germans don't have a lot of luck with crossbars in World cup games! This team though come from Italy, England and Bavaria. Your standard Chelsea team then! Blazing Detroit biz not from Detroit. I can see Reini practising his over head kicks to this one.

    28. Art Konik - Finger (UFO mix)(Comet) 12"
Pitch it up housebabies and you get the perfect Herberty groove! Both original and remix adding mo momentum to the tasty morsels coming outta Paris! As always, the packages from France first to be opened.

    29. Bebel Gilberto - Tanto Tempo (remixes)(Ziriguiboom) 3xLP
Uncle Samy comes to town and gives Cuki his fix for the week. Some drugs last longer then others and this is one of them. Of course his DJ partner for the night drops the phattest rub but others give worthy and credible contributions to Bebel's sweetness. How do you say Ziriguiboom? Don't ask Nik.....

    30. NuWalker - 2nd of September (Cheap) 12"
If ever Doctor Rocket gets to hear this then he'll be in admiration! Tweaked Knobs, twisted vocals, horns mucho mutated! Off beat bizniz for the straight jackets! Cross the road from Cuki's and I really should go and say hello to PP and the fine folks who plated this up. Then there's Doris, she put it in a bag for me. Doris could be a feature here!

    31. Difusion - Khameleon (Solaria) CD-R
Jamie and Venom developing this sound real nice. ruff riders to the ready! Another stormer that should find its way into all the best boxes belonging to all the big dicks! Cuki happy to be truly underground!

    32*. Jill Scott - Experience 862+ (Hidden Beach) 2xCD & 12"
Who is Jill Scott? I think we all know the answer to that don't we! New bitz from Philadelphia and old bitz in live form and how she can do it live. Nice to see the collaboration with 4 Hero getting in on the playlist too. Seek the hidden tracks on the CD, seek the sampler twelve so you can play it out to all your buddies at you local bar! Seek a magician and a softly spoken candle! Feel a spell coming on!

33*. 1050 East and Alma Horton - Count on me (Deep tissue mix)(Diaspora) 12"
Quality vocal touch from in form singer Alma Horton. One of King's girls I believe! I'm settling for the lively flip side with it's uplifting keys that suits Alma's style. Yes we are enjoying the ride.

    34*. Slow & Local - Don't be blue (?) 01 12"
Cheeky, beefed up version of Jackie & Roy's 'Don't be blue'. Those who don't know Jackie and Roy are well neither do I, well not personally anyway. They did make some choice percussive club tracks that rocked many a Dingwalls session back in the day. Check the new lick. You got this Nik?

    35*. Montefiori Cocktail - Sofisticata (Nicola Conte remix)(Irma) 01 12"
The Fez, now he has the smartest dress code in Europe! Immaculately turned out every time. His music too carries a sophistication and pedigree that suits his style. Apt title then for Mr Conti who is definitely on a roll with quality productions all through the year. All I need now is a summer!

A lot of records that I didn't chart or mention. Doesn't mean they ain't any good. It means I would like to visit a coffee house and see something of Vienna!

    This weeks Java Joint.
Bobbye Hall - Body Language for Lovers
    '20th Century' T-534 (1977)
Fusion come folk album that is a perfect compliment to lazy days here at 'Bootsville' Vienna. Bobbye Hall was a top session musician and even played percussion for Stevie Wonder and Joni Mitchell. Not sure many albums passed through but this one is certainly a hidden gem. Not a duff track in the line up. Think Rotary Connection with out Minnie and Charles. Tracks that are moving my 'boots' are 'Oh' and 'Voyeur'. Deep

Boogie down session at 'Funk Coalition' at the Charterhouse Joint. EC2
