Yeah, if you look to the majors, this was a pretty poor
year in hip hop. But hip hop's been dead to them for some
time. In my eye, there were many fantastic hip hop releases
this year, and in addition to the BBE stuff, I really
enjoyed M.F. Doom "Operation: Doomsday", Prefuse 73 "Vocal
Studies and Uprock Narratives", Yesterday's New Quintet and
the cLOUDDEAD reissued EP's on the left side of things, and
i'm really bumpin' K-Otix "universal" on a more straight
    ahead underground hip hop thing.

The Dilated album isn't mind blowing, but it's quite good.
More of the same really. If it ain't broke, don't fix it,
    I guess.

Also got a quick listen to the new De La Soul (AOI:
Bionix), set to drop next week. It's... OK. Better than
AOI, but they're obviously done pleasing critics and have
their sites set on gettin' paid.

I dunno, I really liked the Antibalas and Poets of Rhythm
albums. And there was also the Wagon Christ album, which
got a few people on this list talking when it came out.
Flanger? Bonobo? Both damn good albums, as well. Sure the
label didn't put out a lot of releases, but IMO, the stuff
that was released (that I heard) was quite good -- Which is
definately more than I can say for their subsidiary labels,
n-tone and big dada (I, similarly, didn't like the
    neotropic and Roots Manuva albums)
