    i did several tests some time ago (over 1,5 year i think) with several
    encoding algorithms...... me and a friend both decided that RealAudio at
    that moment was the best sounding algorithm for low-bitrate
    encoding.....both mp3 and the microsoft algorithms focussed to much on
    delivering high freqs which started phasing and warbling with all kinds of
    transients loosing out.....RealAudio seemed better because the focus was not
    so much on delivering high freqs but more on the "tightness" of the audio
    material..
