In the UK, to "spank the monkey" is also known as to "Chipperfield", from
the notorious circus animal trainer Mary Chipperfield, who was filmed by
undercover reporters for a TV documentary beating up her trained chimps.

    >does the term to "spank the monkey" mean anything outside of the UK?

I thought it first came from America. I know most of my friends first heard
    it on Beavis and Butthead.

The most interesting phrase that means different things in different places
is 'gang-bang', which in America refers to a group of thugs or louts but in
the UK means something completely different!
