STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

Sorry to those of you who tuned in for the mix from the Brooklyn Soul Rebel,
Wayne Pate. Technology was not on our side for that one, but Wayne promises
to have it to us soon. Let's hope he's not teasing!

But my mailbox was kind enough to give me Nik Weston's mix to the rescue.
All tracks are from his amazing 21-track strong double CD compilation Music
and Movement (on Climate Records, UK). It's all what I would modestly call
Stylin-type stuff, and there are rare Japanese tracks and 3 previously
unreleased tunes on there too. If you want to get a fortnightly insight into
where this music is headed, subscribe to Nik's chart at
nik@mukatsuku-pr.fsnet.co.uk. Then wait, wait, wait for the tunes to come
out. And if you're in London, check out Nik's weekly "Bite Your Granny"
session at Point 101, or monthly he spins at the Jazz Rooms in Brighton (UK)
    with the legendary Russ Dewbury.

This week we have local girl Angela Maison, one half of production outfit
the Little Beasties (with Ant J Steep who unfortunately can't make it in)
and Sydney's Mako, who dropped a great Herbert-esque remix of Multiball last
year and is getting ready for an album soon.

It was a 3-way Trainspotters' Corner last week, starting with a cut from the
now-finished Verve Remixed album. One of the best cuts is the remix of
Willie Bobošs "Spanish Grease" by Dorfmeister and Madrid de los Austrias,
working in bits of the original vocal over an uptempo bassline-driven groove
and some nice rhodes work. Therešs also a guitar part in there which was
used by Mo Horizons for Fever 99, a track which itself made use of horn
stabs from an old latin track, "I'll be a Happy Man" by the Latin Blues Band
& Luis Avilez back in 68.

And the local cuts ... LOR aka Lords of Rhythm with one of the tunes they
were shopping in Miami, featuring the great soulful vocals of Gary Pinto and
the assistance of former Stylin guest Simon Grey aka Polyester. For fans of
the classic MAW sound. Hopefully we'll more about the guys Miami trip and
whether they've found a home for their music in an upcoming Stylin. And
thanks to Adrian Watkins for passing on the Lief music, another new
Melbourne project that's strictly CDR at the moment, with a lovely organic
    bossa and Stevie-like vocals.

Gotta open some sesames at Honkytonks now, catch you there or on tomorrow's
    show ...

    until then
    Ennio Styles
