STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

Much as I love all my Stylin guests, it felt good having the studio to
myself for 2 hours last week. More room for the new bits and for going in
    even more directons than normal.

Belgrade's Burning is back with volume 2 digging out more from the Belgrade
new (and nu) jazz underground. Once again selected by musical renegade and
Cosmic Sounds label boss Zeljko Kerleta, he's even managed to sneak a new
track of his own on there (despite now being based in London). And what a
superb, hypnotic track it is, reminiscent of some of the 70s East European
jazz tunes influenced by Spain like Jazz Q's "Carodej" and Jazz Celula's
"Ohen Az Pozar". But if you were listening closely, you may have noticed a
tiny piano part from SHQ's "Cubano Chant" in there. I'm such a fan of SHQ's
version of the classic Ray Bryant tune, that I chose it when asked by Zeljko
to join the forthcoming "Cosmic Sounds Remixed" project. Expect much less
    subtle samples in my remix!

Special mention for Simon Grey's "One" which I played again last week, after
it had its world radio premiere (as "The One" by Polyester) when Simon
dropped in for Stylin 10 nearly a year ago. This superb soul house tune has
now been released on 12" by German label Records of Interest, and is also
available for CD fans on Muschihaus Vol 4 and (in a Knee Deep remix) on
Soulfuric Sessions. And did I mention that it's tearing up all manner of
club and DJ charts in Europe and Stateside?

So coming up this week I have one of the pioneers of the Brisbane jazz dance
scene, Ravi dropping in with a few tunes.

    until then
