STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

Great to get some hot unreleased Melbourne music into last weeks show,
including deep funk with a CDR of the next Bamboo Shack 45, hip hop from
Plutonic Lab & RuCL (who will be featuring on the Other-Worldly Fusions
comp) and broken Detroit flavours from recent guest Lazyboy.

Trainspotters' Corner featured a cut from the forthcoming Blaze album,
Spiritually Speaking. "Breathe" sounds a lot like Earth Wind & Fire's late
70s smash "Boogie Wonderland", but then vocalist and co-writer Philip Bailey
was a member of EWF. I didn't play it alongside "Boogie Wonderland" - it was
a good excuse for me to ply the re-edit of "Brazilian Rhyme" which I found
recently (the original version is just over a minute long). "Brazilian
Rhyme" was also sampled by a Tribe Called Quest on "Mr Muhammad" from their
    first LP.

It was very interesting to hear from Bugge Wesseltoft about his music, his
label and the Norwegian scene - many thanks to Bugge and Anders for making
it happen. Selecting tracks to play with the interview reminded me what an
impressive body of work he has built up with his 3 New Conception of Jazz
albums and also some very good remix 12"s, including the new Chilluminati
remix of "Change". Not to mention the other stuff his Jazzland label has
been putting out like Beady Belle.

This week I'll have local DJs and soulful house producers, Lords of Rhythm,
to chat, play some tunes and confirm or deny the rumours that they've signed
with an impressive US house label.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
