    Greetings,

I was all set to write about the dearth of albums this week, but a
few choice entries have popped up:

I'm feeling the new Towa Tei CD entitled, "Sweet Robots Against The
Machine" - it's quirky, electronic and catchy as all get-up. I went
to the Web site (www.towatei.com) and discovered that this was the
second album in five years bearing the same title. At least I think
that's what I learned. If you come up with a different answer, please
    let me know........

"Heathen" pairs David Bowie up with longtime collaborator Tony
Visconti for the first time since "Scary Monsters" and while the
result is not the masterpiece I was hoping for, it's still 10X better
than most of the crap out there. In addition to his originals, Bowie
covers songs by the Pixies, Neil Young and the Legendary Stardust
Cowboy and echoes of "Low" and "Heroes" reference the past in a
classy way. BTW: I'm very jealous of any of you planning to attend
the show tonight at Roseland. For those of you who haven't heard, Mr.
B intends to perform all of "Heathen," followed by "Low" in its
entirety. Guess I'll have to settle for Letterman tonight....

Beth Orton's "Daybreaker" is a lovely piece of work, particularly
"Concrete Sky" and "Everywhere." A long time coming, but worth the
wait...Our friends at Nice + Smooth in Toronto have several new
releases to crow about: Teknostep's "Music For Short Attention
Spans," "Thinque" by DJ Shine and "Nice One," a label sampler that
I'm enjoying as I write these words to you...

A few interesting singles to mention: The Dutch Music For Speakers
label is fast becoming one of my favorites, due to its eclectic
roster and leftfield releases that are unique and complex. We played
Roomtone's EP recently and this week we have "Interior Backgrounds"
from Sonar Lodge - a juxtaposition of electronic beats and acoustic
jazz, and Relaxo Abstracto - a new collaboration between Aardvarck,
David Caron & Sandor Caron resulting in an EP's worth of deep,
abstract beats. All three get two thumbs up......there's a slammin'
remix of Capitol K's "Capitol Beat Sticky" reworked by =B5Ziq, Swedish
jazz from Olli Ahvenlahti re-rubbed by Jori Hulkkonen and three new
Dom Um Romao mixes that are pretty dope......

Show #100 is almost here and I'm thinking of putting together a look
back at the first half of the year. More definitive news next time.

That's it for this week - ciao for now!
    David
