Se=F1or Swell is feeling like a very lucky geezer! The west london crew
bigging up "Let me decide" and Laurent Garnier giving major props for Jazz
Lesson. And summer has reached Gothenburg... love is in the air!
You'll get the chance to read more about that and the Hollow DJ tour in the
    US below the...

    SWELL CHART JUNE 02

Compiled by Andreas Saag aka Swell Session

    ARTIST TITLE LABEL

    1. Moonstarr - The Dupont remixes - Compost
Now THIS is the shit! I knew I liked the original mix of Greed, but his own
rework... just a perfect danceable interpretation! Sick! Mad! Starts out so
smooth and then just keeps everyone happy as it flows away. Thank you!

    2. Da Lata - Golden - Palm Pictures
The best Da Lata track ever ? Well it's more than just a latin club
track, it's a ... beautiful journey. Wonderful arrangement, great theme,
great sound and top skill musicans (as usual). Bugz mix working (as
expected), though the Patiffe mix is really different, nice drum n bass
shuffle biz, providing a vibe of brazilian urbanity...

    3. Kahuun - Sjallabais/Marinade
Well, the sequel to Batteri is here and even more beautiful. How the rhodes
and the vibraphone is weaved around the warmth of the double bass and
organic beats is just... perfect. I'm proud of being scandinavian!

    4. Seiji feat. Lyric L - Loose Lips - Bitasweet
As seen in charts and heard in clubs. Anyone needs introduction to this? Le=
    t
me put it this way: Anyone who has got a broken beat record and a rap recor=
    d
at home should get this at once. No questions asked. I'll refund anyone
who's unsatisfied. Big up to our main man Seiji who has probably made the
record of the year, the combination of sparse broken beats, mad toasting an=
    d
acid bassline synths is the work of a true master.

    5. Koop - Bright Nights including Rima remixes - Compost
I love koop. I love Domu. Always.
These tracks being no exception, (Bright nights is my favourite on the
album) and the remixes by Domu and Volcov under the moniker RIma are just
    groooovin. =20
There has been a rumor that the koop guys once had a dart board with the
word "fusion" in their studio - surprised to see a Rima fusion mix of brigh=
    t
nights... :-) Well as long as it sounds like this we're all happy...

    6. The Dining Rooms - Speak Into the Microphone (Dalschaert rmx) - Milano
    2000
I don't listen to much trip hop these days but this song is just s o
amazingly beautiful. Like if Victor Malloy, Air and Boards of Canada would
have teamed up in a studio somewhere. The use of an answering machine beep
as an instrument is very clever. Will be the soundtrack of my lazy days
    this summer.

    7. Mark Force - Gypo - Bitasweet
The peak of my last visit at co-op. It's nice that the clubbers actually hu=
    m
along with the bouncing bassline "Duh-duh-duh duh-duh-duh...." Well the
phattest and darkest chopped up grooves that you will find this summer, I
believe. The B side is also great, broken and mid 80's flavoured. We like!

    8. V/A - La Politique remixed - Vienna Scientists
The best release from the austrian professors of chilled beats this far if
you ask me! Love the Shanti Roots burning remix! I've heard flirtations wit=
    h
the dark side from them before and I'm glad they really dug down into it
this time! The Uko Flavoured mix is also very deep... nice variations of th=
    e
beat as it turns dancehall style, and a brilliant outro leaving the french
vocals alone and upfront leaving noone confused about the message (supposin=
    g
you know french. Se=F1or Swell does not. :-(

    9. Nicola Conte- Jet Sounds Revisited vol 1 - Schema
Schema has done a great job finding a perfect blend of well known
remixers... or better described: interpreters for Nicola Conte. The peak
tracks from Espen horne, Les Gammas and The Dining Rooms. And it comes as a
    double 10" vinyl... swell!

    10. Quant - Funkster EP - Hollow
Two key words: Fat. Funky. Well, this is the mother of fat funkiness and fo=
    r
you who have heard Quant before, this is one level up, including some west
london influences! It's such an honour to have this guy in the same
building, in fact not even 5 feet away... this is where a lot of the
inspiration for my swell session and statless stuff comes from...

    11. Twitch - Blow your Blues away - Key
Wow! Don't know much about this but it's sure one hell of a
afro/sixties/bluebeat/funk groove! And those rambling breakdowns... we love=
    !

    12. Briskey - Ready When You Are - Downshall Plastics
A little more laidback than my favourite Briskey track Lovlier Without
Makeup. But the funky saxophone riff is keeping that feeling of good old
jazz days I always like to get from opening a briskey!

    13. Various - Music & Movement vol. 1 - Climate
Our favourite still-londoneer vinyl junkie mr Nik Weston presents us a
collection of favourite pieces like Da One Away's Trash Da Junk, Domu's rmx
of Oba Funke and At Jazz rmx of Kabuki. As well as new exclusives like his
own Brighton-partner Russ Dewbury w Ben Mitchell feat Fertile Ground. And m=
    y
own Gothenburg homies Jol feat Quant! My favourite track is probably Chari
Chari's Aurora which is just so beautiful. Two CD's of pure top selection.
    Dont miss!=A0

    14. Zero DB - E Ruim (Commetary Mix) -
Grisfest on acid! In sweden the expression for a yearly tasteless outdoor
party when everyone is drunk and dancing to cheesy latin music is "grisfest=
    "
(pigfest). I don't mean that E Ruim is tasteless. Or cheesy. But it sounds
like the perfect twist of a happy samba party. The floorfilling late night
dancefloor monster in my box right now.

    15. V/A - Tribes vol 7 - InfraCom
Michael Rutten brings us a killer comp that starts out nice, the Wai Wan mi=
    x
of Fertile ground being just perfect... It's the end that kills it though.
Watch out for a mad Alex Attias vs female jazz choir jam and the beautiful
beat-balad of Rdj2, including a chopped up sampled version of the greatest
    funk riff in the world...

    16. Nuspirit Helsinki - Album - Guidance
Soulful is the word, I believe, as the kings of Finland present a slightly
more downtempo, yet funkier blend of songs. Quite a lot similarities with
the new Jazzanova long player... pro stuff full stop. And the jazz session
mix of my favourite, Seis Por Ocho, is just wonderful!

17.=A0 DJ Marky & DJ Patife - Sotinha que esi com voce - Movement
The perfect mix between drum 'n bass and bossa, Marky and Patife once again
prooving that they're the masters of doing it and Fernanda P giving it the
perfect vocal touch with her blissful voice!

    18. Co-operation Session Part 2
Lots of the hush hush breaking boundries broken beat buisness here... well
it's always intresting to hear what's up in the dodgy neighbourhoods of wes=
    t
london :-). Lots of nice bits from the likes of Neon Phusion and Numbers.
Though my favourites are the least broken tracks, Big Bang's Lady, and th=
    e
really simple but very intresting Daydreaming of Stephane Attias.

    19. Trevor Loveys - Moon Dust - Freerange
Label mate Trevor Loveys delivers a fantastic broken/2-step club 12" with a
mad and funky remix from Solid groove on the b-side.

    20. V/A - Carte Blanche 3 - Naked Music
Soulful! A very nice mixture of both US and European atmospheric
eclectisism! The peak of it being Andy Caldwell's Lectropic and Quants
    Stimulus monster.=20

Feels really great that so much is happening with my music right now...
recieving overwhelming feedback from people like Laurent Garnier on my
techno jazz bits and from Seiji and Afronaught on the broken beat stuff
means a lot and really keeps me motivated!

Having been in London spinning some records at the Notting Hill Arts Club
it's also good to be back in Gonkyburg again to do some work. I had a great
    time in London though:

First of all it was great to meet all the lovely people like Pete Herbert,
Nik Weston, Freerange geezers Jamie and Tom, Nigel, James, Mike and Spence
at Goya, Alan Skov, the always hard working Hospital staff Chris and Tony,
    Tim Land and many more...
But most of all: The people that took care of us and made sure that we had =
    a
place to stay: Gabor (the incredible mr Shuriken) Reka and Anna. Thank you
    for such lovely hospitallity!

And our all time favourite mr Cukipapa Alan Brown. Taking really good care
of us kids from Gothenburg (me, Elsa, Jonatan and Mimi) and spinning some
mad records at Plastic People with Ade. My favourite DJ's in my favourite
club. Swell! AND even improving the allready amazing soundsystem with some
new giant hi-end turntables (installed during the set) Respect to Ade for
    keeping it freestyle in HiFi!

Goya and Co-op also being wicked of course. It felt very good for me and
Jonatan (Ernesto) to recieve such overwhelming personal response on our
track Let me Decide from some of our biggest influences like Seiji,
Afronaught and Alex Attias. And to hear it played in co-op by mr Seiji
    himself...=20

Tomorrow the 28th of June, I'm off to play in P=E4rnu, Estonia with the nine =
    2
five guys... looking forward to that! And to going back to my roots... yes
my father's from estonia! And it's going to be my first time there too!
    Excited...
Also, me and Stefan from Hollow will be touring in the States, probably in
    October. Stay tuned!

Here's what to expect from me in the near future:

    Singles:=20

    * Swell Session vs Ernesto's - Let Me Decide on Hollow. Including Pinku
V=E4=E4ty and Desha remixes. It's been released on New Tribes 7 and the respons=
    e
has been so good we have to release it as a 12" as well!

    * Jazz Lesson EP on SLS. Jazz education for the techno heads? For those of
you who have heard my first twelve on this swedish techno label I can tell
you that Jazz Lesson will sound like a mix between that and Swell Session. =
    A
true experiment in the studio but I believe it turned out very intresting.
And I was very happy to hear that one of my techno heroes Laurent Garnier
    really loves it!

    * Stateless 12" #2 on Freerange. With my lovely girlfriend Elsa singing on
Another Day and myself humming on Hool :-) Including a Yukihiro Fukotomi
