Tonight: FreeFall #86 - Tuesday 10pm PDT

From: David Bassin (bassyd@pacbell.net)
Date: Tue Mar 12 2002 - 08:32:16 CET

  • Next message: Bob Davis: "MANDRILL - PEACE AND LOVE (Listen with your EARS and your MINDS)"

Much musical goodness to share tonight, including:

No Categories 5 - the latest in Ubiquity's ongoing series features
exclusive new tracks and remixes from Cuica, John Beltran, As One,
Interfearence, Stacey Pullen and others. A fine snapshot of the
current roster and a teaser for what's to come later this year.

Plaid: "P-Brane" EP - four new tracks and a video on this enhanced CD
should stimulate lots 'o airplay in preparation for their U.S. tour
that begins on the 22nd of this month. Mira Calix and Nobukazu
Takemura are also on the bill.

Rae & Christian: "Nocturnal Activities" - Mark and Steve turn their
"Sleepwalking" album of last year inside out with a complete remix
fest, incorporating the talents of Groove Armada, The Nextmen, Faze
Action and Atjazz. Don't miss Bobby Womack's acoustic version of "Get
A Life." Also on the Grand Central label, is "Hinterland" from Aim.
Dare we call it hip-pop? Whatever.....two thumbs up.

Kinky: "Kinky" - hailing from Monterrey, Mexico by way of the
Canadian Nettwerk label, this five-piece takes the sound of the
Nortec Collective and fleshes it out with real guitars, bass and
drums. There are some very catchy songs here and the live show is
rumored to be outstanding. Catch them at SXSW later this week.

Plastic Surgery 3 - I was too tired to write this up last time, but
it most certainly deserves a mention. Hospital Records has a line on
some of the best drum & bass in the UK and collects it here in this
double-disc package (one mixed, one not). Good stuff from Total
Science, Nitin Sawhney, Virtual Suspects, High Contrast and Xploding
Plastix, whose "Treat Me Mean...." has gotten new legs in the UK,
thanks to a push from the label. Way to go!

That's the tip of the iceberg - tune in live to hear more, or catch
one of the re-broadcasts at Live365 or Flaresound.com.

Periodic reminder: If you'd like to submit your music for airplay on
    "FreeFall," please send it to:

    111 Laidley St.
    San Francisco, CA 94131

That's all for this week - ciao for now!
    David
