STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

I couldn't resist some more Brazilian drum and bass trainspotting last week
with the imminent 12" release of DJ Marky & XRS Land's massive "LK" on V
Recordings. There's a new version on the 12" which adds a bit of MC work to
the mix, but I still like the original version which first appeared on
Marky's "Movement" mix CD. Either way, this track is heavily reliant on
Jorge Ben & Toquinho's "Carolina Carol Bela" from 1969. A hint: some more
Jorge Ben trainspotting coming up this week, mixed in with some latin disco
    and fresh French beats.

A very soulful guest session was provided by Belgium's DJ Morpheus who was
responsible for the phenomenal 7-volume "Freezone" compilation series for
SSR, for which all the best artists of the day recorded exclusive tracks
before anyone else had heard of them. Particular faves of mine from this
    series have been:
    2 Player "Arizona" (Vol 3)
    Ian O'Brien "Mina's Blues" (Vol 5)
    Utsumi "Toiki" (Vol 6)
Robert Hood "And We Build" (Vol 7)
Since doing this series, Morpheus certainly hasn't slowed down. He continues
to do 5 radio shows (looks like I've got some catching up to do!) - Lysergic
Factory on Radio Campus (Brussels, weekly from 22h to 1h Tuesdays),and on a
monthly basis: Radio Nova (Paris), Radio Grenouille (South of France), Radio
FM 4 (Vienna) and Radio Nova (Portugal). His gigs over the next couple of
months are even further spread: Vienna, Portugal, Switzerland, Taiwan, Japan
and Holland. Plus he's also in contact with a label about a future
    compilation project.

Tomorrow I'll have a mix from Germany's Space Clique which seamlessly blends
the old and the nu side of jazz.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
