STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

After an excellent start with A Bossa Eletrica and Stockholm Cyclo, (former
Stylin guest) Mat Matsı Raw Fusion label looks set to continue its fine form
with Povo combining the full 60s hard-bop jazz style of Horace Silver with
fresh club sounds. I had hoped to play Art Farmerıs 1953 classic "Mau Mau"
for Trainspotters' Corner since Povo's "Uam Uam" makes use of more than just
the title, however my shelves at home refuse to reveal their secrets.

Povo (which means "people" in Portuguese) is a collaboration between 2
Danes, DJ and record collector Wunderbaum and jazz musician Lars Vissing. As
the guys say themselves "this isn't your average nu-jazz project with your
standard fender rhodes grooves and 'jazzy' productions." If you have any
doubt about Wunderbaum's appreciation of jazz, then look no further than the
compilations of Danish rarities he's helped to put together like "Danish
Drive", "Copenhagen Dancefloor Classics" and "Best of Buki Yamaz".

On the more contemporary side of things, he's just done a compilation for
April Records called Companionship, taking its name from the beautiful and
ultra rare album by Sahib Shihab, an American musician who based himself in
Scandanavia. All of the tracks are new productions, but their soul and
sensibilities lie with the great jazz sounds of the 60s and 70s. Many Stylin
favourites represent including Koop, Swell Session, Butti 49 and Jol (whose
track featured in Trainspotters' Corner recently).

You can probably now appreciate why I was pleased to receive Wunderbaum's
mix for last week's show. Don't forget to check him out if you're in the
    Copenhagen vicinity.

Coming up tomorrow we have guest selections from Paul Gamblin, who hosts
Black and Blue - the Perth equivalent of Stylin - on RTR-FM. Hope you can
    join us.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
