STYLIN - Rare grooves, hi-tech jazz and other worldly fusions
Friday afternoons 12-2pm RRR 102.7FM, Melbourne
Live online - http://www.rrr.org.au/index2.html (see below for times)

    Hello all

On the very first Stylin more than 2 years ago I played a tune called
"Phasen" by Meitz, which ended up making the best of 2001 show with its
unique blend of techno, broken beats, jazz and bossa. Throughout the life of
Stylin, Volker Meitz has remained one of my favourite producers for his
continued diversity and rare blend of composition, keyboard and production
chops and good taste. And the Other-Worldly Fusions compilation I did with
Kano last year featured 2 of his remixes. After a string of singles with
Sonar Kollektiv, and even more remixes, his debut album Vertikal is out on
Infracom. If you're in Germany or Europe, lookout for his 8-piece live band
playing Meitz originals as well as covers of artists from Stevie Wonder to
Roni Size. I wasn't so fortunate when I was in Berlin recently, but it was
good to spend some time with the man himself. The new single "Zwakalani"
features the new cut "Passo Percussion" which again demonstrates his
incredible drum programming skills. Also coming up are remixes for Slope and
Beatclub 21. If you want to get a taste of the what he was doing before,
take the time to check out some of the amazing tunes he made as PRI for the
Commodore 64 computer in the early 90s, including mad covers funk classics
like "Chameleon" and "Pick Up the Pieces". You'll need to download a special
    player using the last link.

This week, my guest will be no less than Brooklynite DJ Spinna, who's been
taking on hip hop, house, broken beat and more.

    until then
    Ennio Styles
