            *NEWS*
Finally back on the scene....albeit, a little bruised.

Technology has gone nuts with me these past few weeks. I had a
monitor that decided to die on me while re-recording a show, a
laptop that refused to reboot after I've shut it down, an mp3
player that wouldn't allow me to revert its firmware back to
factory settings, and on and on. Oh, and did I mention that I've
had to do a clean install on my home machine (meaning I've had
to erase my hard drive) after booting up on it failed? I've
backed up most of my data files onto the laptop. But what
happens when the laptop is in danger of going south?

So now you know why it is that I"ve been out of touch in recent
weeks. Without the data files on my laptop, I was held hostage
for awhile. I've decided to become a hostage no more, and get
with it. Because of these mishaps, I've had to forgo doing
reviews for July. Also, my only copy of my July chart is on the
laptop. Moving forward, what you're gonna get this week are the
playlists for the July shows so far. If all works out as I hope,
next week should see my August chart, which will include fresh
new reviews of many of my picks.

Please email me at mail_at_urbanlandscapes.org with your preferred
email address if you'd like to receive the email circular for
the show, especially if you haven't received it of late. Thanks
            much!

*THIS WEEK'S URBAN LANDSCAPES GUESTMIX: DJ COSMO*
More info on this in the next circular, but do catch the show
this week for an exclusive Urban Landscapes Guestmix from DJ
Cosmo. As one the most in-demand DJs around, she also helps
front the UK-based label Bitches Brew (along with partner Nikki
            Lucas). Details to come.

*URBAN LANDSCAPES RADIOSHOW 7.27: BEANFIELD PROFILE AND JOSEPH
            MALIK GUESTMIX*
The show that was aired on July 9 was a special broadcast.

The production duo Beanfield were interviewed shortly before my
trip to the Winter Music Conference in Miami last March.
Beanfield was one of the first signings to a then-fledging label
called Compost Records. In spite of some personnel changes
(Michael Reinboth, for instance, left to focus on the
rapidly-growing label), Jan Krause has stuck with it through and
through. With his current production partner Michael Mettke,
Beanfield has just released "Seek," its third and most acclaimed
album to date. The segment featured in the broadcast is a
mixture of both their words and music.

Labelmate Joseph Malik really gets around. While he's best known
for his Compost albums "Diverse" and his newest, "Aquarius
Songs," he's a DJ, club promoter, musician, crooner, and
political activist among others. A true Renaissance man, he
delivers a rather eclectic guestmix that may surprise those who
think they have his musical taste down pat.
