I was in the Bay Area over the New Years with my cousins, so one of my
cousins and I went to see Skerik in San Fransisco at Bruno's on Thursday
(30th). It was amazing. Skerik played the most funked up saxophone decked
out with loop, wah, and distortion effects. It was a duet with Skerik on
tenor and a percussionist (not THE, but A "Mike D", I think) on drums, tabla
and vibraphone. During the second set, they invited a friend who was in the
audience to guest on drums so Mike D (not the Mike D) could focus solely on
vibes. The majority of the show was improvised, I believe. It was really
good. The show was mostly funk-jazz, but the sonics ranged from free-jazz
to heavy-distortion head bang to whimsical vibraphone noodling as well as
    the funk.
