June/05 - Soul-Patrol.Net Radio Top 40 (End of Month)
LISTEN TO: SOUL-PATROL.NET RADIO

These rankings are compiled from our server logs and represent the relative popularity of the
shows "narrowcasted" from the Soul-Patrol.Net website. They are mostly meaningless, but I
enjoy compiling them each month because it gives me some insight into the where
Soul-Patrollers "musical heads are at". The actual volumes generated by these 1 hour audio
programs is huge. For example during the month of June Soul-Patrol.Net Radio had 95,000
listeners who generated almost 200 million kilobytes of data transfer. Needless to say that is
a lot of data processing activity on a worldwide basis for something that generates ZERO
revenue for Soul-Patrol. It's very expensive for us to provide this service, however we feel
that we need to have this INDEPENDENT audio component to augment the text information that we
provide at Soul-Patrol. We think that in order to discuss Soul Music (both old and new), you
have to be able to hear the appropriate music/commentary delivered in the proper context as
well. So thank the DJ's (Gary Tyson, Kevin Amos, Will Chill, E. Norman, Mr C on da Funk, Giant
Gene, Mike & Baron, John Wilson and the elusive "nightrain") of Soul-Patrol.Net Radio for
delivering the audio in the proper context

A COUPLE OF NOTES...

- Congratulations to New Birth for being #1 this month. Their new CD called Lifetime is
SLAMMIN and I'm glad that so many folks had a chance to listen to it during the month of June.

- Nice to see Motown Remixed and "Soul Comes Home" in the top 10. The legacy of STAX and
MOTOWN are very important to understanding the overall historical context of Black music. It's
good to see high quality NEW products coming from the current day caretakers of their
legacies.

- The ongoing "cult popularity" of Louise Perryman's "Whisper My Name" at #30 continues to
amaze me. Who said that there is no "timeless music" being made today? Those folks betta
listen and learn!

- The appearance of Angela Johnson's new CD "Got To Let It Go" at #29

- Next week I will be at the Vocal Group Hall of Fame Induction's in Wildwood NJ. Hopefully I
will come back with some new interviews for yall to listen to...

- In July look for New CD's from Gordon Chambers, Desi, Billy Griffin, Terry
Johnson/Flamingos, and of course MARLON SAUNDERS (& some other stuff) to make their
appearances on Soul-Patrol.Net Radio

Anyhow, here are the rankings.
