Clubs - Toronto

Some information on Toronto sent to me by Nick Koudas <koudas@cs.toronto.edu>, Carlos Mondesir <mondesc@govonca2.gov.on.ca> and others:

Cameron House (Every Wednesday THE acid jazz bar - for the 6th year now as a acid jazz club!).
On Wednesday nights, the Cameron House on Queen Street hosts "Acid Jazz Wednesdays". I've been there a couple of times and it gets pretty crazy, especially in the back room. Unfortunately the capacity is rather small - maybe 150 or so. But it's a cool scene, you get a good crowd, no posers.

Sunday nights: 'Soul Sundays' will move to The Rivoli 334 Queen St. W. as of June 16/96. (earllier at the El Mocambo club 464 Spadina Avenue (416) 928-3393.)
Soul Sunday at the Rivoli with DJ Curtis Smith, and DJ Alok also featuring live performances. Music selections include acid jazz, soul, funk, latin dub and experimental hip hop.

Area 51 577 King St. W. (across the street from the Rotterdam Brewing Co. and the Mockingbird)
"It's the first all progressive, electronic music venue in this city. Last night was goddamn wicked with some Goa Trance other Trance and severely heavy electronics. I danced my ass off. It is a pretty small place (200-250 people) and should be a nice change from the waining warehouse scenesters. Anyone into beats, jungle, low-fi, electro, trance etc etc must check it out. Any DJ's looking to spin should make up a tape and/or call John at (416) 977-4036. They have some good connections and should be getting some good names in including some guys from The Tokyo Techno Tribe (Dec.), Commander Tom or other Noom people, DJ Hell (hopefully) and on and on. The guys running the place are totally down to earth and just want to have some fine tunes going 7 nights a week."

Thursday nights: 567 at Left Bank on Queen St. W.
With resident DJ Jason Palma, guest DJs, guest hosts, live performances, art and fashion shows. A beautiful supper club and dance spot.

Friday nights: The Indigo cafe presents the Blue Planet.
DJ Mike Tull spins in the cafe and occasionally some live jams occur in the front of the room. A very nice atmosphere. Capacity is about 100. The Indigo is @ 685 Queen St. W and hosted by Patrick of Funk Fish productions. (416) 504-6344

There are always other nights which come and go but I've mentioned the most stable scenes. Any questions about whats new van be posted to my address and I'll provide up to the minute info. The scene here is vey cooperative and we all try to pull together and help each other out.
