I've seen the Philosopher Kings live twice, and they definitely put on a 
very funky show and are well worth checking out live. I don't have the 
promo CD, but I borrowed the album from a friend once, and it's total 
crap. Matthew's "over-produced pop drivel" description is about as 
accurate as you can get. So the moral of the story is go see them live, 
but don't spend a dime on the recorded material.
