A friend of mine, DJ here in Vancouver for a cooperative radio and
producer of a show about New (shall we call it) "North American" music
that broadcasts in Lima, Peru (South America), wants to make a future
program on Acid Jazz. So she asked me to do a little research, since I
seem to be so interested in this genre.
And so here you find me, posting to this list that I found (since really
I'm, I guess, somewhat illiterate to all this "internet" stuff... but I'm
getting there). My question is, is there anybody out there who would like
to indicate to me where else should I look? I've realized that this list
in itself is enough information, and I have a few group/band preferences
that I (self-righteously) would consider as "acid jazz" (UFO, The Brand
New Heavies, Tricky, Massive Attack, Incognito, etc. among my favorites),
but of course, my universe is limited and so I don't want to leave
anything in the dark. Furthermore, knowing a bit of the origins of the
music, and unifying all the pieces into a logical whole (although
intellectually dangerous) would be most beneficial for this goal.
Don't get the wrong idea. This is nothing glamorous. Just a program that
she (my friend) tapes from her apartment here in Vancouver and sends to a
radio station in Lima. Yet, this is exciting, as both of us are Peruvian,
and it would be quite a good deed to introduce in such a pioneering
manner such a great music genre to a people that has an inherent (i.e.
genetical) desire to groove to beats and rythms. Hey! You can be part of it.
Chaucito...
