     DJ KRUSH, that is, whose U.S. debut doesn't quite happen with the 
upcoming ffrr/London release of 'MEISO' (4/9). Last year, New York-
based indie Shadow Records brought the Japanese DJ's self-titled 
acid jazz outing to our shores, full of his insinuated funk but marred 
by a clutter of cameos, including amateur-diva vocals. 'Meiso' is the 
one worth waiting for, a rarified drums-and-bass spread of rap for 
those who dislike rappers. No offense to CL Smooth, who guests on a 
few cuts, but Krush is best unadulterated, free to spin his vinyl with 
the delicate care of an antiquarian. His atmospheres are as spooky as 
anything DJ Premiere has wrought for GangStarr, and his affection 
for a spare groove and a raspy off-beat are irrepressible. In the 
meanwhile, look for an import copy of 'Strictly Turntablized' (Mo' 
Wax) and prepare to be krushed. Lucky folk in the Tristate area can 
check out his New York debut 2/2 at the West Beth Theater, where 
he'll be DJing an event for the Red Hot Foundation. Any e-witness 
reports would be appreciated.
