FYI This is the press release we sent out counteracting what's goin' down at
Agenda. Nothin' to nasty, just watching out back just in case it doesn't
come off like we would have done it.

Hey Deb,

This is what I penned:

BlueVision

Another Solo Series from BlueVision?...

I Don't Think So!

BlueVision is flattered, really, that a club in San Jose would flat-out,
unabashedly copy our idea for a jazz Solo Series and even go so far as to
copy the title as well. If imitation is the highest form of flattery, as
they say, then indeed, we are flattered silly!

BlueVision is still enjoying the comet-dust from its smash Third Annual
Solo Series held at the Cafe Du Nord in San Francisco in February of
1996. The four-part series showcased the brightest young stars on the Bay
Area new jazz scene. Each night was a sold-out, standing-room-only show
that electrified the audience with the vast, kinetic sampling of jazz
genres presented and perfected by the assembled artists (including Dave
Ellis, Clyde Sutliff, Janus Lustig, Josh Jones, Omar Sosa, Jesus Diaz,
Sharon Hirata, etc.). The Series also garnered wide praise from the Bay
Area press corps, receiving extensive coverage in printed publications,
on television, and over the radio airwaves:

"BlueVision's Solo Series at Du Nord shines a light on local
musicians who are pushing the limits of new jazz." PP SF Bay Guardian

"The old jazz tradition of 'cutting contests,' will be
masterfully revived again with the third annual Solo Series at Cafe du
Nord in San Francisco." PP Oakland Tribune

"BlueVision's Solo Series puts some of the Bay Area's best young
jazz musicians in the spotlight" PP SF Chronicle "Pink" Section

BlueVision actively supports the local jazz scene with ongoing concert
productions, bookings, event coordination, and various professional
services such as publicity, graphic design and management services. In
addition, we work closely with numerous club owners and promoters from
around the Bay in making band tours possible, as well as to trade
information regarding jazz acts, industry tips, and jazz programming.
Therefore, it strikes us as odd, not to mention counter-productive, that
the organizers of the copy-cat Solo Series (i.e. Club Agenda in San Jose)
would pirate an idea that was clearly not theirs. But oh well. You can't
expect integrity from everyone, now can you?

So, until the next BlueVision production coming to a venue near you, one
piece of advice: Watch Your Back! Cause the hounds are loose. Peace. %
