I'm sure most unsubscribers follow the correct procedure, but the reason why
they post to the list is because their attempt to unsubscribe the right way
has failed, and posting to the list, they hope, is a workable last resort.

For those unsubscribing (and especially those who have recently subscribed,
for your knowledge just in case (not that we want you to leave soon! :))
REMEMBER to use the EXACT email address you used when you subscribed,
including all subdomains, etc or else the listserv won't accurately
recognize your unsubscribe request (i.e. "I'm sure *someone* out there will
see this and remove me manually")

For example, if you used "joe@average.com" to unsubscribe and it didn't
work, you might
have used your long-form address of, say, "joe@below.average.com" when you
subscribed.
Ditto if your email address responds to alias addresses.

Most mailing lists (and I assume all of the large ones, with 100+
subscribers) are automated, for obvious reasons, and despite modern advances
in computer technology, it's not smart enough to listen to your request if
you get even one character wrong.
