the eq section on your mixer is useful for a few things.
first off, haven't you ever played a record that didn't
have enough bass, or was really top-endy? for giving
the track a little extra bump, or keeping it from
cutting off your head w/the cymbal sound +/-12 dbs is
useful. for doing crazy blends where you're
substituting basslines, or inserting jungle snares over
a d/t tune the -35 dbs is more your speed. the term
"kills" is mis-leading as -35 doesn't really kill the
frequency, is just makes it significantly quieter. if
you really wanted to *kill* (i.e., remove) the frequency
from audibility, you'd need something closer to -96 dbs,
which would be prohibitibly expensive in a dj mixer. of
course you could always get a custom-made mixer--hope
you know some engineers w/a lot of free time.
