I just recently purchased the new Clifford Gilberto "I was young and I
needed the money" on Ninja Tune- (Its been mentioned before on the
list). It doesn't have the raw beat power of the Compost sound. Instead
its got a steady, smoother rhythm with some interesting brazilian
instrument samples. Also compared to Amon Tobin its slower and doesn't
have the wall-to-wall drum patterns.
There was a Compost night in Istanbul this last Saturday. Jurgen from
Jazzanova did a DJ set which the most enjoyable for me, containing a lot
of suprising latin, disco and funk. Fauna Flash did a live set that was
a little bit to tech for the uninitiated local audience - half of the
crowd split immediately. Michael Raunboth (sp?) also did a nice mixed
set in the Compost vein.
