'Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a
creature was stirring, except for your faithful DJ who was listening
to the new tunes that Santa had delivered during the week and who was
working under the influence of way too many holiday cocktails.....
Yow! - Stop the presses! - My stocking overfloweth with music for the
final show of 2001 from: Fila Brazillia....their new album, "Jump
Leads" is, dare I say, a pop record with lots 'o melodic
hooks.....Tosca's "Different Tastes of Honey" comes in over 14
flavors, including exotic offerings from Funky Lowlives, Biggabush,
Supatone and others.......Faze Action presents "Pure Brazilliance" -
remixed samba soul from Fertile Ground, Russ Gabriel, Fauna Flash,
Bebel Gilberto and more...."A History Of Things To Come" is the most
recent release from Ian O'Brien and is a lovely trip through dreamy
ambience and downtempo tech.....Counterpoint offers up an advance
look at "Afrika Underground: Jazz, Funk & Fusion Under Apartheid," a
collection of South African jazz, recorded during the late '70s and
early '80s. The first of a series, "...Underground" is deep and
funky, with political subtext - kudos to Jake Behnan for this
excellent selection due out in early 2002...
Compilations from Afro Art, Stereo Deluxe, Vikter Duplaix's "DJ
Kicks" mix and a few bonus singles will make it a little harder to
compile the year-end chart, but who's complaining? We're devoting the
next two weeks' programs to the best of 2001 - who will make the cut?
All shall be revealed next week....
I'd like to thank all the artists and labels who have contributed to
FreeFall during the past year - I sincerely appreciate your
support.....to everyone on the Acid Jazz and Downtempo lists - your
passion for music has been inspirational....to my friends and
acquaintances: much love and respect.
Merry Xmas to all and to all a good night!
David
