i like to hear stuff like this.  people finding out
about their locals and checking it out.  i think it's
pretty common to not go out on a limb w/names you
don't know.  
i actually met one of my dj partners for the exact
opposite reason, though.  i was doing 2 acid-jazz
parties (sundays@zabumba aka "jazzid up!", and
mondays@the room hollywood) and some guy emerged from
the shadows to introduce himself as "markman."  (last
sentence enhanced for dramatic effect)  it seems that
he came to see me & junior roach at the room because
we were the only acid-jazz djs in l.a. he didn't
know--i'm sure he also wanted to know if we were any
good...
i will go back and forth between seeking people out
that i don't know who play stuff i'm into, and only
going to nights i know will be good.
