Tempo fo the Down,
Brother Stimp (a.k.a. the "Taste Police" or is that Stimp and I are known as
the "Taste Police" by JW, Stimp don't step on Hommie's Disco Pumas because
he won't let it slide) mentioned Teena Marie. Though I am not Catholic I
feel this relentless need to confess. Me? Teena Marie? Every sine I first
heard her belt out the Ballads "Dear Lover" and "Out on a Limb" I have had
considered by some very impure thoughts and to others just normal thought of
carnal knowledge. Girlfriend has a set of pipes on her and I do like the
way she sings ballads. I recently heard Teena Marie sing a couple of verses
of Quincy Jones' "Secret Garden" with several other Femme Chanteuses and I
think it was for a Sax player named Pamela Williams. I can say without any
reservations what so ever that Teena nailed her part to the friggin' wall in
that song. No one absolutely no one on this planet can put more feel into
the phrase "Oooo wee, Oooo wee, Oooo wee". I would be hard pressed to find
someone Moan so heavenly like Teena Marie. Teena Marie reeks with
unadiltrated unihibited animal relentless sex when she utters "Oooo wee,
Oooo wee, Oooo wee" and Moans when she sings.
Counter point on Teena Marie. She's poster child for why one should give
absolute strong consideration before snorting substances up one's nasal
cavity. I guess everyone has something but somethings are worse than
others. I still check in on her music from time to time but I haven't found
anything that comes close to "Dear Lover" or "Out on a Limb". I still hold
a candle for her in an attempt that she would make a significant comeback
doing what I like best in her which are ballads.
Book'em Danno!
