MCA Wins Judgement: The company's Music Entertainment division won a
$7-million judgement against Swiss-based Charley Records for unathorized
use of MCA's Chess Records catalogue, which includes recordings by such
seminal American artists as Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters and Howlin Wolf.
The U.S. District court ruling supersedes a 1994 jury verdict of $4
million, which Charley elected to contest in a new trail. In December, a
federal judge ruled that MCA owned the exclusive rights to the Chess
Catalogue, and a jury unanimously agreed that Charley had infriged on
those rights. On Tuesday, MCA was awareded $5 million in compensatory
damages and $2-million in punitive damages.

Is this the same Charley Records that put out those great Meters reissues a
few years ago?
