Indeed, I had heard murmerings of the Acid Jazz/Hollywood deal a couple of
months ago, since Hollywood(Disney) reps are here in Orlando. My dentist's
secretary's husband is a limo driver who drove some Hollywood dude around, and
he was asking about our Phat N Jazzy night so he could see "what this acid jazz
thing is all about".
This is certainly just a major label trying to get on the hip new thing, and
it's too bad for the Acid Jazz label. Once Hollywood loses interest in the
scene, they will drop support in Acid Jazz, but they will still be stuck in a
contract. Happens again and again, the list is long of indie labels getting
screwed by majors. Oh well.
But, we will probably see Acid Jazz releases available at your Wal Marts and
such, and the acts will hopefully get to tour the US, so there may be a bit of
good. But I bet Hollywood will release only the rock-ish Acid Jazz acts and
market them all as the "next Lenny Kravitz".
Good luck to Piller & co. They'll need it!
See ya, & PEACE 'em
