So this is the mail I get tonight.....I'm wondering if he saw the =
Allstars.
"Saw Greyboy at 'The Elbow Room' on Fri. night completely by accident, =
i.e., I had no idea that they were going to be there. VERY, VERY FAT! =
(No "ph" for me, thanx). Have you ever seen these guys? They had this =
guy front stage center who played the flute and the sax. He was f----n' =
awesome! Basically, the whole scene was pretty cool, and the cover was =
only $4. Not a bad way to spend a Fri. evening, huh?"
And this was my reply......
I can't believe you got to see him....He's the one artist I'd really love =
to see that I haven't seen yet. The sax/flute guy was probably Karl =
Denson, who is one of his main dudes (check your CD booklet) and who also =
has his own band, the Greyboy Allstars (tho greyboy doesn't do anything =
with them except release their albums on his record label). You should =
check out that CD, and the two tracks on Ubiquity's "Home Cookin" for =
more music in the same vein.
It's funny, Greyboy is the artist who I've turned the largest number of =
my friends onto, and his formula is so simple: throw down a fat beat, =
give it lots of funk, add a sax and flute and various other things, and =
Whala! instant 'acid jazz'....you'll find, however, that if you keep =
purchasing other acid jazz releases, there will be a lot of bands who try =
to cop the same formula but few can do it as good as Greyboy. Basically, =
consider yourself privileged to have seen that show, boy!
Oh by the way I'm in no way connected with any musician in the band, the =
country, or the known universe in any way, shape or form, so I encourage =
the court to accept this testimony...
