And also don't forget Bernard Purdie, Wilton Felder, and other (soul) jazz
greats. I'm a big Steely Dan fan because their compositions were light years
better than most of their contemporaries (whom we now call 'classic rock') and
their studio work (detailed in their biography) is surpassed by few (read:
PRECISION).

Don't forget about the often forgotten drummers. Steve Gadd is a
drumming genius and that should be enough to save the Steely Dan name.
I'm not a huge Steely Dan fan but their music is p[layed, written,
arranged, and composed better than many. If nothing else listen to the
drums.
