Totally, totally, totally - Yes!
for example,

Walking on the moon
Synchronisity 1
Masoko Tango
Driven to tears
Hole in my life
Bring on the night

The drumming on those tunes is amazing - I dig that crisp punchy snare
sound, was copeland a jazz drummer b4 The police? He certainly sounds
jazz influenced..IMHO

In my opinion however,
some of the truly greatest drummers have never needed a big fancy kit.
Stewart Copeland is one that immediatly comes to mind. I don't know how
many of you have ever really stopped to listen to the drumming on much of
the Police's stuff (I was a big, big fan back in 1980) but I personally
feel he ranks right at the top as far as talent. The man could keep an
incredible beat and pace through an entire song! When you concentrate on
it, you'll swear that he's an octopus or something :)
