Wicked Night/ Question....

I just had one of the finest nights of '95. And by the looks of my
schedule, it'll only get better!!!

Well, I was a little disappointed earlier about the lack of a supported
"jazz/funk/groove" scene. Well, Groove Inc, w/ DJs Steve and Manifest
have been building the funk regularly on Thurs nights at Caffe
Valentino. Steve called me up and told me to bring my drum. Imagine my
surprise when I was listed on the door (under $2 Beck's specials) as the
"percussionist" for the evening's spoken word performance. That went OK-
more of a folksy song duet with a woman from WA, but hey- it was cool.

I got to hear a sneak preview of Jazzmatazz II. Sounded pretty damn
good, but then again, anything does at that place if you're in the mood.
After the "duet", DJ Steve ripped shit up with all these tracks I've
never heard before- I swear, that *whole night* I recognized maybe 5
songs....

Around 11pm, a bunch of guys from about 3 different bands showed up, and
I jumped in as we played some (unrehearsed?) mellow jazz funk. Then Mark
F. from SF's Mushroom jazz ripped the shit with even *more* music I'd
never heard. If I wasn't playing drums or dancing, I was nodding my head
while I waited in line to get water. F*cking brilliant night.

So my one question- I heard this weird Sting (?) remix. The vocals
repeated "Oceans- inside my head/ Echoes- things that I've said" with a
wicked bass, then added drum beats and a few strands of (recognizable)
Police guitar riffs.... But it was a *massive* song. Anyone?

So last props- again- to Groove Inc for the music, and the vibe that was
truly eclectic, diverse as the people that showed up, and kicking!

What a time to leave Hawaii.... :-(

Peace
