Wassup to the whole chain of rhythmic ponderers. I've been scouring this
list for the past hour and have had a hell of a time figuring out how to
send a message. It remains to be seen if I've doen it right. Any
suggestions for my behind-the-times computer skills would be
appreciated.
Anyways, my name's Matt; I go by Bubblicious when I spin and make
music; I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, a town struck with a concrete
sense of musical summer stagnation; I'm into lots of stuff and like to
mix music you wouldn't expect to hear together (e.g. take Black Moon's
Who Got Tha Props Inst. and drop it over the one slow track on
Plastikman's first release- fits together like a jigsaw puzzle), but
these interests revolve around the styles of music embraced by you
fellow cats. Double time jungle mixed over some slow deep jazz flavor,
6/8 jazz cuts into 4/4 hip-hop ditties, tablas, jazz licks, 808 kicks,
and on. I'm interested in talking about Dj techniques (not necessarily
acrobatics), where these forms of music are headed, what musical
expirementations are happening around the country, how the music we dig
is still embedded in the jazz trdition even if it may not always seem
so. I'm not interested in talking about "trip-hop" and similar loaded
terminology (this topic has been thouroughly exhausted on this bb), but
what substance hovers beneath the labels.
I must make contact soon, or I'm afraid my musical lifeline will
perish in the wake of the soundless limbo known as Ann Arbor. Help!
