Here we go again, Jonathan. :-)

First of all, I have to take you to task for not printing Jared's
message in its entirety. It made a lot of sense to me. If you
were really interested in a valid discussion of the issues instead
of another chance to dump on Instinct, you should have forwarded
the complete message!

Now let me say that in spite of all the expensive imports I am
now addicted to, the very first acid jazz release I bought was
Instinct's THIS IS ACID JAZZ VOLUME 1. Also, the very first
ambient compilation I bought was CHILL OUT. So in my book,
Instinct does deserve some credit for exposing people to the
music, at a fair price. I'm sure there are plenty of other
folks on this list whose first exposure to "acid jazz" or even
"tr*p h*p" was courtesy of Instinct. Maybe they're not the
most hip, or most adventurous, or most uncompromising label
around, but as U.S. labels go, they're better than the majors.
