Unrelated notes / "new" purchases:
* So I picked up the DJ Cam "underground vibes" album to see what all
the fuss was about - I like it, and I can understand the comparisons to
Krush. Not much more to add - recommended album!
* UFO Jazzin' (_finally_ found it for regular price!) Truly excellent!
* London Funk All Stars on NinjaTune - marginal recommendation, very
repetitive a la Krush or Cam perhaps, but it didn't hit me like those
two. Still a bargain at close to 20 tracks. Would make better
tweening than featuring.
* "Return of the Brecker Brothers" - What a strange mix of lounge jazz
and fresh hip-hop tracks. (Alternating, not together!) Songs like
King of the Lobby and Big Idea are worthy of mixing and yet they have a
tribute to Barry Rogers? If you can get past the occasional cheese
track you'll appreciate the rest, moreso in the style of Medeski Martin
and Wood than say, NinjaTune or MoWax.
Q: is the Brecker Brothers "Skunk Funk" (from an earlier album) the
same as Galliano's remix by the same name?
Noticed in the bins:
* "Jazzy Grooves 1 + 2" on Eightball - interesting to see these
re-released... The same ole Smash tunes, but in an easily available package!
* "Give 'em Enough Dope vol 2" - how recent is this? Wasn't aware
they'd come out with another already; I think it was on C&S this time
so I s'pose the original probably has been out a while.
* "Back to Mono" - is this any good? I've heard great things about it
but it was on hold :(
Finally - friend of mine has been talking with folks at Vinyl Solutions
and Ninja Tune and I should have a discography / coming-releases list
from each of them fairly soon in case people are curious.
