Re: Sound of Funk series?

About time there's something I can give some help on! The album is part
of an irregular series called (surprise) the Sound Of Funk. It's issued
by a label called Goldmine: Soul Supply records. They've got a shop in
Manchester, England, but the albums (they've been around for about 4
years or so) are produced in Todmorten - the address is on the cover.
Most of the tracks really are classic, and all the albums I've heard in
the series are strong. One thing to be careful of though- they repeat the
same tracks on different compilations so you could end up with several
identical tracks on different LP's. The Cd's tend to come with extra
tracks. I can provide more info- address of the shop, label etc. if
anyone wants it. The shop's superb, by the way- really unassuming and
doesn't look like the sort of place you can find good grooves, BUT get
inside and there are row upon row of 7's from 1950-now, all neatly
catalogued and reasonably priced. They have a great funk section, and you
can listen to the tracks before you buy- rare event, these days. And I
don't even know any of the guys in the place... what a plug...
