Saw DIG and UTE do a double act at the Basement three sundays ago. Ute were
their normal tight kicking jazz funk. They finished off with a mighty
reggae skank that had the whole place rocking. Saw DIG for the first time
since April 84. Had been avoiding them because at a few of their shows in
early 94 they were sounding very stale and blase. Glad to report their back
with a vengeance. New arrangements of old songs and a whole swathe of new
material had me smiling. What is interesting is that whereas before they
were emphasising their danceability, they are know throwing a heavier dose
of jazz into the equation.
trip Hop vs hip hop. different branches of the same tree.
Anyone into experimental hip hop should check a 1990 album 'Mark The 45
King presents the Flavour Unit'. Am listening to it now and there a couple
of tracks on it which sound very experimental hip hop. Whatever did happen
to mark the 45 king?
Izit are playing here in a fortnight. Are they worth seeing?
For those of you who haven't availed yourself of Bambi's mix tape, check it
out. IT IS THE BOMB!!!! I have had it for a while and even my partner who
ain't no musical aficionado gets off on the tape while we drive around the
streets of sydney.
