My little jaunt to Toronto was, while primarly for the purpose
of getting a preview of the new version of a our graphics modelling
software and two days of training. The local boys did a valiant
job of showing me a couple of the local nite sites and giving a broad
view of the local scene there, which seems to be just starting to
make itself known. From what little I can tell, this is thanks to a
few die-hard individuals who just spread the word and the vibe
for its own sake. As with any other city, commercial radio rules
the airwaves, but Toronto's college and independent radio scene has
reserved a rather generous percentage of itself to the street jazz
scene in its many forms. I didn't have as much luck with finding
the clothing stores on my own that I wanted to find (even Gap starting
looking good after 3 days). Music selection too, wasn't what I had
expected (Tokyo's spoiled me), but I can see that things are just
getting going. The night at the Indigo was a good vibe (no thanks
to the drummer, though) and of course Sunday's at the El Macambo
look like the place to be for those in town on the weekend. (Don't
get the day wrong, or you may be horribly disappointed, though).
Tokyo readers note: The visual version of my journey will be covered
in Free Paper "Knob 3."
Toronto readers: I'll also send 20 copies or so to Paul for Toronto
distribution.
Toronto Jazzheads -> will someone tell Prasad how to join this
list? I don't have his address anymore...
Thanks again all,
