Massive Attack just played festival hall in brisbane over the weekend,
and I must say that I was bitterly disapointed, for several reasons..

the hall was made up to resemble a rave, with huge blowup characters and a
computer visual that repeated itself all night.. very boring..
the actual venue was completly wrong and had no vibe of it's own and the
music sounded really out of place..
the bar was a complete disaster, I had to line up for over 20 minutes to
only be served beer in plastic cups.
the band's actual set was very disapointing. they played about 7 songs
(thats including 2 very forced encore's). all tracks were very slow,
dubby and we were all left standing wondering when they were going to
kick into a nice danceable groove (which never happened). the band played
very few tracks off the new album..
Mushroom breakbeated a little bit during the performance but i thought
that the band should have utilised the DJ a little more..
Finally mushroom finished off the night with a very weak and boring
selection of almost 'cross-over' hip hop and R&B tracks..
the sound was incredibly loud, with no top end, and the bass distorted which
became very annoying to listen to..
His mixing was perhaps the worst I have seen anyone do in a long time,
and i was left thinking how extremely wack massive attack really are,
and that I have seen better local DJ's and bands perform here in brisbane..
I tend to think that massive attack had a bit of a backwater mentality
towards australia, which is totally unacceptable, particuly after
tickets were selling for $45.
I had a chance to chat to Mushroom briefly after the show, but honestly,
I got the vibe that he didnt want to talk. he was actually asking me a
lot of questions about spiders.. 'I heard you have lot's of big spiders
here in australia..where can i find some?' ??? But i wont hold that
against him :-)

hey, but who's complaining, I had a free ticket :-) (My opinion anyway)
