It's surprisingly good. I heard the word "trip-hop" tossed around, and it's
not completely unfounded. Less Tricky, more Wu-Tang Clan though. Rza does
production and guest vocals on one track (with U-God). However, I honestly
can't tell the difference between Muggs prodcution and Rza's on this album
save that Muggs seems to be into wacky Halloween sounds. There's even
samples of Samual L. Jackson (his Biblical reference speech) and kung-fu
movie-ish dialogue. However, Muggs always seemed to have no trouble coming
up with decent beats and basslines, same with this album. Too bad about the
vocals though, way too much blunt-talk from that whiny B. Real guy, the
other guy seems to have been relagated to backing vocals. On his guest
show, Rza's booming voice squashes both of them anyway.
Certainly not cutting edge. But walking home around 6 'o clock, the album
had a decent ambience to it. Thought I'd comment on it just 'cos I was
pleasantly surprised. Like going to see Crimson Tide last summer, I thought
it'd be crap, but it was really, really good (for a summer movie). Well,
Boom isn't a Crimson Tide, maybe a free screening of Ace Ventura 2 though
(for which I would suggest: if you can't get in for free, wait for the
video, trust me).
NT - I saw one of the Rebirth of Cool comps with a DJ Krush track on it. I
believe it was called "I Want To Touch Her" or something (isn't that the
chorus to a Catherine Wheel song?). Anyhow, is the track any good, is the
disc worth getting, and which Rebirth volume is it? In advance, I sincerely
appreciate any info provided. Cheers.
