Yes, the track is good....uses the same slow beat sample as an older Massive Attack tune, good bass line, very slow, and really surprising vocal grunting samples on the top. I remember a girl I used to date everytime I hear this song because she went absolutely flippo about the samples when I played it for her.
The whole compilation is definitely worth your dough, it's one of the better compilations released....other notable tracks are Ronny Jordan's version of My Favourite Things (though it sounds a little like the car commercial that was out around the same time this album was released), the impeccable "Aftermath" by Tricky (nothing else on Maxinquaye came close to this song IMHO), a good Mondo Grosso tune, and a fairly good song by Tranquility Bass (has anybody heard the song off a compilation called California Dreamin' which uses the same sample?).
Finally got to make some record purchases....most of this has been reviewed already (and virtually all falls under the "instrumental hip hop" category)....Got a 12" by a band called Horse Milk on Pork, I'm quite fond of the A-side ("They milk horses don't they", I think"); picked up my first Pussyfoot release (Groove Hard Sex by Howie B among others) and was also pleased; picked up Depth Charge - Nine Deadly Venoms, and what can I say but man this group really knows how to put some energy into the mix!!! I also got the Attica Blues Blueprint Remixes, and while I like the techno stuff, I am incredibly enthralled with the vocal Attical Blues remix track, this is one of the better songs I've heard in a while and totally plays off my Portishead love, which is fine by me...and finally, picked up the Ballistic Brothers - London Hooligan Soul, and I absolutely love it too, really good production and the whole album is consistently good which makes it an excellent vinyl purhcase.
I thank all of you who have posted top five lists...and I thank the record stores that have turntables set up, for all I bought I listened to so much more this holiday weekend.....
