First of all I'd like to thank Shamms for sending me Science Fixion's
latest record 'Sting Of The Star Spider'. I must say that these guys are
very skillful and have ability to play a wide spectrum of styles. 'Sting
Of The Star Spider' is a very varying record, one can't just go and
categorize it but I'd define it mainly as show-music, these guys are
probably a zillion times better playing live than in a studio. There are
jazzy and groovy tunes on this record and this is what I most definitely
call 'happy' music, it left a happy taste in my mouth, you know ...;)
Only thing that bothered me constantly throughout the record was the
lead singer and his inability to sing. I don't know if this is
appropriate, but if I was in his shoes I'd keep my mouth shut. OK, as
I mentioned earlier this is a show band and therefore the singer is ok.
This band has a nice airy sound that made me feel kinda 'spaced out' in
a couple of tracks. I wouldn't go spreading word that this is an acid-
jazz band, because in my opinion it isn't.

Yes, I disliked some of the tracks and there were a couple that I liked
too. I decided that I will not give an opinion on every track, only
those that I liked, because as I said this is a very varying record and
my taste of music is limited, so it wouldn't be fair to say this is bad
just because I couldn't get a grip on it as somebody out there might
like it a lot.

1. It's all Science Fixion to Me

This song didn't give me too much vibes, but deserves a mention
for that 'spacey' sound, would be a lot better if instrumental.

3. The Star Spider

After the harmonic intro this one turns into a chase-scene
tune in the 'Roadrunner' cartoons. Weird but funny.

4. Mama Lilah

Groovy tune, nice feel here. Yet I must say that I think this
would be better as an instrumental.

5. Song For Chick

Best tune on the record, great solo on piano and a superb 'outta
here' sound on the guitar solo. Real phat !

6. Drifters In the Void

Nice jazzy easy-listening tune.

9. Inclination

A quite ok jazzy tune.

10. Kill The Buddha

Sounds like something out of a musical, can't say if I liked it
or not really, a funny song altogether.

12. Never Abandon Hope

Not on my music menu really, but deserves a mention for the
'spacy' sound, especially on the guitar. It's such a yummy sound !

13. Walk in a Space of Understanding

Definitely the grooviest song on the record. This tune gets
closest of the definition of 'acid-jazz' IMO... makes you wanna shake
ass.

I for one will most definitely go and check these guys out if you ever
play live in Finland. I have a feeling that this can be a really good
live band, and I recommend that if you have an opportunity, go check
em out !!
peace.

... If it wasn't for C, we would be using BASI, PASAL and OBOL!
