RE: The Herbaliser

I've been listening to Remedies non-stop since I picked it up a while
ago. It still gets constant attention! I can't figure out whether to
call it turntables accompanied by a live band, or vice versa, but it's
about as close as you come w/ a single LP to matching the sounds of a
good AJ club night. I could review it further but the best description
has to be the promotional info for the single "Repetitive Loop" at
"http://www.southern.com/PIPE/herbaliser.html". It's a sure bet you'll
dig this album if you're up on other stuff on Ninja Tune ("the greatest
recording organisation in the world")...

... Or if you're into a good jazzhop night like we get here in Seattle
at Strong [Wed night at The Croc]. I apologize to Brian and Kelly for
ever mentioning that their show is associated with T**ty S**ws because
it's not!

A couple of one-sentance reviews of other albums I've picked up this
week: Verve's 2CD collection "Move to Groove" features tracks from
_original_ jazzfunkateers - Roy Ayers, Jimmy Smith, Kool and the Gang,
the JB's, etc - which served to inspire the acid jazz revolution. Bomb
the Bass's "Sandcastles" single also includes Kruder & Dorfmeister +
Chemical Bros remixes of Bug Powder Dust. Moonshine's "Trip Hop Test
pt 2", another jumble of conflicting styles which strays but survives
on the strength of standout tracks like Portishead's early '95 remix of
Primal Scream.

On a side note I just passed another birthday recently which means I
owe some shouts out to listmembers who one year ago convinced me to hit
a Galliano show on my birthday. On the way home I was so pumped that I
promptly (accidentally) drove my car off a small cliff. My new car is
much nicer and it's because of y'all. :)

Steve

footnote: Moonshine's web page categorizes each of their releases:
"dance", "dj mix", "acid jazz", "trip hop", etc. Their categorization
of Wagon Christ? "Unexplainable"
