Luke Vibert is definitely one of the better electronic musicians out
there....the comment about live instrument interaction definitely holds
because Vibert is very conscious of his different sounds and their interplay
(and the dynamics thereof). The only difference is that the fantastic
explosion created by the interaction of live instruments (or at least good
players of them) is that it is more immediate and representative of the
creative energies of all involved in the process; Luke's music is a more
planned, individual effort that acheives the same effect by being conscious of
the cross-rhythms and subtleties (sp?) that occur in live jamming and
transposing them into the electronic medium. End result: Vibert melts the
icy coldness of the machines he uses to produce his music, but still allows
the electric element to display its color.

I really consider this guy to be a helluva lot better than most....while many
electronic musicians can create really good grooves, Vibert really understands
his medium well and exploits it to its fullest. How many trip hop or whatever
you want to call it albums are as well-produced as 'Throbbing Pouch'? I can
listen to that album in its entirety many times simply because it goes
everywhere. Too many other artists' songs degenerate into idle repetition.

Just my $.02,
