There seems to be a lot of traffic about the definition of acid jazz and I
think most people have a slightly misguided impression of what it might be.
I was in London back in 86 when the "scene" started and it was never about a
musical style but more about attitude, an attitude to expect no boundaries.
In a Giles Peterson set you could expect to hear anything from Yusef Lateef
to Public Enemy and the Beatles.
So Acid Jazz isnt just about a funky sax loop over a hip hop beat but
anything from Drum and Bass to a groovy folk song. Never let the majors
pigeon hole this genre into any convienent hole always break boundaries.
