though I by no means am an expert on London clubs, (shit, I've never even
been to London, though I plan to go in December), I picked up this info at
Time Out's Web site and thought I should pass it on. Dig:
     Jazz Venues
For many punters the difference between trad jazz and
more improvisational 'modern' jazz is as great as the
gulf between Rachmaninov and ragga. Watch out for venues
that specialise in one or the other.

The Sex Pistols staged one of their first London gigs in
this basement in Oxford Street. Although views aren't
good, it's a fun place. These days you're more likely to
hear a mix of trad and modern jazz, rockabilly, blues
          and swing.

This legendary Soho jazz venue still attracts all the
major visiting jazz heroes. Sound and atmosphere are
excellent, but the charges for food and drink are
extortionate. Book in advance to get a table with a good
          view.
