Where's JTQ?

I'm new to this mailing list and a relative newbie Acid Jazz afficionado. In
fact I'm still a bit confused about exactly what constitutes Acid Jazz. For
example, the James Taylor Quartet is listed as "definitely Acid Jazz" on the
Acid Jazz WWW home page...yet I have never seen JTQ CD's in the Acid Jazz
section of record stores. Instead, JTQ stuff is to be found in the regualr
jazz department alongside Jimmy Smith, Joey DeFrancesco and other Hammond B3
players. Also I've heard the term "Future Funk" used to describe stuff I
thought was Acid Jazz. And where does Hip Hop end and Acid Jazz begin? A UK
group I heard recently which impressed me is Outside...the radio station
described them as Hip Hop..but they sounded to me more "Acid Jazz" than JTQ.
I know that labels are just that...labels...and open to as many
interpretations as there are fans...at best all they do is (possibly) guide
you in the direction of music that is similar stylistically to other stuff
you enjoy.

Slightly confused, but still enjoying the music!...John Reay, Bowmanville,
